What the DR 2710 is and why it matters

DR 2710 is Colorado's Branded Title Disclosure Statement. The form says it's "required for any and all vehicles that carry a brand on them," and that Colorado law requires any owner or dealer to disclose any title brand before selling or trading a vehicle. The hard legal edge is C.R.S. 42-6-206: before selling a car rebuilt from salvage, the seller must give each prospective buyer a written disclosure and get a signed acknowledgment. If the buyer didn't get it, they're entitled to a full and immediate refund, and failing to provide it is a misdemeanor.

For dealers there's a second rule on top. The Colorado Motor Vehicle Dealer Board's regulation requires a signed disclosure of all known "material particulars" before the contract is signed, including salvage status and repaired or unrepaired frame, flood, fire, hail, or collision damage. Selling as-is doesn't remove that duty. This guide walks the DR 2710 box by box and shows how it fits with both rules.

The current revision is DR 2710 (07/30/24), two pages. Don't confuse it with the DR 2424, the Rebuilt From Salvage Title Statement of Facts the owner fills out to apply for the rebuilt title; the DR 2710 is the disclosure to the buyer. The PDF is fillable, so you can upload it to DealerVLO once under Settings → Forms: the VIN, year, make, body, title number, and both the seller's (your dealership's) and buyer's names and addresses fill from the deal. When you confirm the field mapping, point the Current Owner fields at your dealership (the automatic suggestion uses the buyer), and clear the suggestion on the "Other (list brand)" box, which the state's PDF internally names as a VIN field. The brand checkboxes and the type-of-damage buttons are your statement about the car, so mark those by hand. Page 2 has no vehicle line, so keep both pages together.

Documents to have before you start

Gather these before you complete the DR 2710. A missing attachment is the number-one reason the the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles bounces a title application back.

  • The title, with every brand on it — Colorado carries forward brands from other states with the name of the state that applied them, which is what the form's "State that branded vehicle" column asks for.
  • For a rebuilt-from-salvage car: the DR 2424 and the rebuilt title — The DR 2710 footer says "Owner must complete form DR 2424." Rebuilding takes a certified VIN inspection and "REBUILT FROM SALVAGE" stamped on the B-pillar.
  • What you know about the damage — The type-of-damage section applies to salvage and rebuilt-from-salvage brands.

The brands (check all that apply)

Check every brand the vehicle carries: Flood, Non-Repairable, Salvage, Odometer Tampered with, Colorado Brand, Rebuilt from Salvage, or Other (list the brand). Beside each, write the state that applied it. Colorado's definitions: a salvage vehicle is one an insurer determined was a total loss, or one whose repair cost exceeds its retail fair market value immediately before the damage, plus flood-damaged vehicles and vehicles another state branded salvage. A rebuilt-from-salvage vehicle was repaired, passed a certified VIN inspection, and was stamped and titled "REBUILT FROM SALVAGE." Colorado won't title any vehicle ever classified as junk.

Type of damage

The Salvage and Rebuilt from Salvage boxes are starred, and the star points to the Type of Damage section: Collision, Water, Vandalism, Theft/Stripped, Weather, Interior, Undercarriage, Fire, or Other (explain), with a box for the explanation. In Acrobat the buttons work as a single choice, so pick the main cause and use Other to explain anything more. C.R.S. 42-6-206 requires the disclosure on a rebuilt-from-salvage car to state the nature of the damage, so this section matters on those.

Under C.R.S. 42-6-206, a seller who didn't provide it owes the buyer a full and immediate refund, and a signed acknowledgment is what protects you. The fine is up to $1,500 for a first offense and $5,000 after that. Give the buyer their copy and keep one with the deal.

The dealer rule on top: material particulars

Colorado dealers also answer to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board's regulation 44-20-121(3)(h). Before the contract is signed, the seller must produce a written document disclosing all known material particulars, signed by both seller and buyer, and it becomes part of the contract. The list includes a salvage vehicle; frame or unibody damage of any grade; flood, fire, or hail damage; accident or collision damage, repaired or not; an insurance total loss; and a stolen vehicle. Calling the sale "as-is" doesn't relieve the duty, and willful failure to disclose is grounds to act against a dealer's license. Dealer advertising rules also call it misleading to advertise a car known to be salvage, rebuilt from salvage, or flood without saying so. The DR 2710 covers the brand; the material-particulars disclosure covers the damage history beyond it.

Getting a rebuilt-from-salvage title

A buyer of a salvage vehicle must title it in their name within 60 days, and the DMV says a salvage-titled vehicle can't be driven until it's repaired and titled "rebuilt from salvage." The checklist (DR 2415) calls for the DR 2424 statement of facts, a certified VIN inspection (DR 2704) no more than a year old, and the salvage title. The vehicle must be die-stamped "REBUILT FROM SALVAGE" in letters at least a quarter inch high on the B-pillar before the inspection. The Colorado State Patrol's certified VIN inspection fee is $55 as of July 1, 2026, and removing the brand is a misdemeanor. Starting July 1, 2027, a 2025 law (HB 25-1189) puts a statement of salvage disclosure on the rebuilt title itself, and the separate affidavit is required only when the title lacks it or the vehicle has multiple assignments.

Common DR 2710 mistakes that cause rejections

Using the DR 2424 as the buyer disclosure

The DR 2424 is the owner's statement for the rebuilt title. The buyer gets the DR 2710, signed.

Leaving the branding state blank

Each checked brand has a "State that branded vehicle" line. Colorado carries out-of-state brands forward with the originating state's name.

Skipping the type of damage on a rebuilt car

Salvage and Rebuilt from Salvage are starred to the Type of Damage section, and 42-6-206 requires the nature of the damage to be disclosed on a rebuilt-from-salvage car.

Getting the buyer's signature after the deal

The buyer has to receive and acknowledge it before the sale; the dealer material-particulars rule requires signatures before the contract. Without the acknowledgment, the buyer can demand a full refund.

Separating page 2

Page 2 has the signatures but no VIN. Keep both pages stapled together, and give the buyer a complete copy.

Common questions

What is the Colorado DR 2710 form?+

DR 2710 is the Colorado DMV's Branded Title Disclosure Statement. The seller checks every brand on the title (flood, non-repairable, salvage, odometer tampered, Colorado brand, rebuilt from salvage, or other) with the state that applied it, marks the type of damage, and certifies it under penalty of perjury. The prospective buyer signs that they read it and received a copy. The current revision is DR 2710 (07/30/24).

Is a branded title disclosure required in Colorado?+

Yes. The DR 2710 itself says it's required for any vehicle that carries a brand. C.R.S. 42-6-206 requires the seller of a vehicle rebuilt from salvage to give each prospective buyer a written disclosure and get a signed acknowledgment, and dealers must also disclose known material particulars, including salvage status and frame, flood, fire, hail, or collision damage, in a signed document before the contract.

What happens if a Colorado dealer doesn't provide the disclosure?+

Under C.R.S. 42-6-206, a buyer who wasn't given the disclosure on a rebuilt-from-salvage car is entitled to a full and immediate refund of the purchase price. Failing to provide it is a misdemeanor, with fines up to $1,500 for a first offense and $5,000 after, and willful failure to disclose material particulars is grounds for action against a dealer's license.

What's the difference between DR 2710 and DR 2424?+

DR 2424, the Rebuilt From Salvage Title Statement of Facts, is the owner's statement of the parts and repairs, signed by the certified VIN inspector, used to apply for a rebuilt-from-salvage title. DR 2710 is the disclosure the seller gives the buyer when the vehicle is sold.

How do you get a rebuilt title in Colorado?+

Title the salvage vehicle in your name, repair it, stamp "REBUILT FROM SALVAGE" on the B-pillar in quarter-inch letters, complete the DR 2424, and get a certified VIN inspection (DR 2704) no more than a year old. The Colorado State Patrol's inspection fee is $55 as of July 1, 2026. Then apply for the rebuilt-from-salvage title.

Is Colorado changing the rebuilt title disclosure in 2027?+

Yes. Under HB 25-1189, starting July 1, 2027, rebuilt-from-salvage titles carry a statement of salvage disclosure on the title, with the reason for the salvage brand, the owner's statement of damage, and seller and buyer signatures. The separate affidavit and acknowledgment are then required only if the title lacks that disclosure or the vehicle has multiple assignments.
