Part of the Choosing dealer software guide: The best DMS for independent used-car dealers in 2026 — an honest list from a dealer
Switching from another DMS? Compare DealerVLO to DealerCenter, Frazer, or Lot Wizard.
InterActive DMS has been around a long time: its site says it has served thousands of users in 46 states, and it handles more kinds of sales than most small-lot software, from cash and outside finance to buy here pay here, lease, and rent-to-own. It also does something a lot of dealer software won't: it puts a price on the page. The headline number is the platform. The website, the feeds, and the contract are the parts to read twice.
Prices below are exactly as listed on InterActive DMS's pricing page on October 18, 2026. Vendors change prices; confirm your quote with InterActive DMS. Full disclosure: I run a used-car lot and built DealerVLO, a competing DMS, so read my comparison sections with that in mind.
The short answer
InterActive DMS lists four prices:
- Platform subscription: $200 a month. Includes cloud installation and unlimited licenses, up to 5 legal or custom forms a year, and up to 5 hardware installs a year.
- Website hosting: $100 a month.
- Inventory feeds: $50 a month.
- Professional services: $150 an hour.
The fine print: "additional training and professional service fees may apply," it's a 12-month agreement with annual renewals, there are no setup fees, and the software is available exclusively for Windows.
For comparison, DealerVLO is $29 a month flat, month to month, runs in any browser, and includes the dealer website and listing feeds, for unlimited users.
InterActive DMS list prices as of October 18, 2026: the platform subscription is $200 a month, website hosting $100 a month, inventory feeds $50 a month, and professional services $150 an hour.
What the $200 platform covers
The pricing page itself is short, so the feature list comes from InterActive DMS's own menus: inventory management, customer management, desking and sales calculations, forms printing, payment collections, reports and a letter writer, and electronic document scanning and retention. Its training videos walk through cash, wholesale, bulk wholesale, outside finance, buy here pay here, lease, and rent-to-own sales.
"Unlimited licenses" means you aren't paying per user, which is the right call for a small store where the owner, a salesperson, and whoever does title work all need in. The two caps worth noticing are 5 custom forms a year and 5 hardware installs a year. If you add a new computer or need a form built past that, the $150-an-hour professional services rate is the likely meter.
What a lot actually pays
Most lots want a website and want their cars on the listing sites, so here's the list price with and without them:
| Monthly | First year (12-month agreement) | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform only | $200 | $2,400 |
| Platform + inventory feeds | $250 | $3,000 |
| Platform + website + feeds | $350 | $4,200 |
| DealerVLO (website + feeds included) | $29 | $348 |
Add any professional services hours on top of the InterActive DMS lines. Listing sites like CarGurus and Cars.com charge their own fees under either system.
First-year cost at list price: InterActive DMS with website and feeds $4,200, InterActive DMS platform only $2,400, and DealerVLO $348 with the website and feeds included.
The contract matters as much as the monthly number. On a 12-month agreement, the first year of the platform alone is a $2,400 commitment before you know whether the system fits how you work. If you want to try a DMS on real deals first, a month-to-month plan is the cheaper way to find out. If you're still pricing out the whole lot, what it costs to open a used-car dealership puts software in context with the bond, insurance, and floor plan.

The Windows question
"Available exclusively for Windows OS" is a line on the pricing page, and it decides more than it looks like. It means the office computer has to be a PC, and it rules out pulling up a deal on a Mac at home or checking a car's numbers on your phone at the auction.
DealerVLO runs in a web browser, so it works on whatever the lot already has. I add cars from my phone on the lot: paste or scan the VIN, take the photos, set the price, and it's on the website. That's not a knock on Windows software, which a lot of stores run happily, but it's the first question to answer before the price comparison even starts.
What $29 a month gets you in DealerVLO
I built DealerVLO to run my own lot in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and it still does. One flat plan, in a browser:
- Deals: a deal jacket that computes the totals, trade equity, payment, and front-end and F&I gross as you type, with a compliance checklist on each deal.
- Paperwork: the FTC Buyers Guide and your state's title and registration paperwork for all 50 states, filled from the deal, with e-signatures built in. Upload any fillable PDF of your own and DealerVLO fills that from the deal too, with no yearly cap on how many.
- Inventory: VIN decode, photos with an optional AI enhance, reconditioning costs line by line so each car shows its real all-in cost and margin, and days on the lot with a flag at 60 days.
- Website and feeds: a dealer website that updates itself from your inventory, plus daily listing feeds to CarGurus, Cars.com, and Autotrader. Both are in the $29.
- Money: buy-here-pay-here payment tracking with a collections view, a sales report with front- and back-end gross, and a P&L that subtracts your real overhead.

Where DealerVLO is the better fit
- You don't want a contract. DealerVLO is month to month; InterActive DMS lists a 12-month agreement.
- You're not all-Windows. DealerVLO runs in any browser, on a Mac, a tablet, or a phone.
- You want the website and feeds in the price. On InterActive DMS they add $150 a month; in DealerVLO they're included.
- You want your state's paperwork filled from the deal. Title and registration paperwork for all 50 states, plus e-signatures, with no per-form charges.

To be fair to them, here's where I'd point a dealer to InterActive DMS instead:
- You sell leases or rent-to-own. InterActive DMS walks through both. DealerVLO deals are cash or finance only.
- You do a lot of wholesale. InterActive DMS has wholesale and bulk wholesale sales. DealerVLO doesn't have a separate wholesale deal type.
- You want document scanning and a letter writer in the DMS. Both are listed features. DealerVLO stores the documents it generates, but it isn't a scanning system.
- You want hands-on professional services. InterActive DMS sells setup and training by the hour; DealerVLO is self-serve, with email support.

Bottom line
InterActive DMS at $200 a month is a straightforward price for a Windows DMS with unlimited licenses and a wide range of sale types, and lease or rent-to-own stores should take it seriously. Budget $350 a month if you want the website and feeds, and go in knowing it's a 12-month agreement.
