Dealer Essential is a Texas-based platform that packs a lot of modern features into its menus: AI listing tools, a unified text and message inbox, an AI call assistant, lender submissions, and iOS and Android apps. Its pricing works like a plan builder: a base plan sized to your lot, then add-ons for the pieces you want. That makes the starting number easy to find and the full number harder.
Everything below is as listed on Dealer Essential's pricing page and FAQ on October 18, 2026. Vendors change prices; get your full quote from Dealer Essential. Full disclosure: I run a used-car lot and built DealerVLO, a competing DMS, so read my comparison sections with that in mind.
The short answer
- Base plan: from $59 a month, priced by inventory size, with tiers for 50, 100, 150, and 200 vehicles and custom pricing above 200.
- Add-ons on top, each with its own monthly price: the CRM, the Premium Website, MagicLister, "and more."
- Unlimited users, no setup fees, month to month, with onboarding and training included.
What isn't on the pricing page: the price of each tier above the smallest, and the price of each add-on. Dealer Essential says you'll see exactly what each feature costs before adding it, but on October 18 neither the page source nor the rendered page showed those figures, so you'll need them from a demo or a quote.
For comparison, DealerVLO is $29 a month flat, includes the dealer website and listing feeds, and has no inventory tiers.
Dealer Essential pricing as listed on October 18, 2026: a base plan from $59 a month, inventory tiers up to 200 vehicles with custom pricing above that, and unlimited users on every plan.
What the $59 base plan includes
Dealer Essential's pricing FAQ lists the base plan as: inventory management with AI-written descriptions, window stickers, CashControl (expenses and accounting), deal management, sales docs, automated tax reports, unlimited users under one rooftop, and cloud access from anywhere.
One detail to pin down: the same site gives two sizes for the smallest plan. The pricing page FAQ says $59 covers up to 30 vehicles; the page's own description and the general FAQ say 25. If you run 26 to 30 cars, that's the difference between the base price and the next tier, so ask.
The add-ons named on the page are the CRM, the Premium Website, and MagicLister (Dealer Essential's AI listing and one-click posting tool). The site's menus list many more features, including the AI call assistant, the unified inbox, BHPH management, e-sign, lender marketplace, and Google profile management. The pricing page doesn't say which of those are in the base plan and which are paid add-ons, which is the most important question to ask on the demo.
The Freemium plan is gone
If you read about Dealer Essential earlier this year, you may have seen a free plan. Dealer Essential's FAQ says its Freemium plan, $0 a month with the first three deals free and $29 a deal after that, was retired on June 26, 2026 and is closed to new dealerships. Dealers already on it keep it. Everyone new starts on a monthly base plan.
Dealer Essential also says it doesn't run time-limited free trials. The alternative it offers is a free demo, about 15 minutes, set up live on your own inventory.
What a lot actually pays
At the lowest listed price, Dealer Essential's base plan is $59 × 12 = $708 a year before any add-ons. DealerVLO is $29 × 12 = $348 a year with the website and listing feeds included.
The honest answer for a real lot is: it depends on your lot size and which add-ons you need, and those prices weren't public on the day I checked. A lot that wants a CRM and a website on Dealer Essential will pay $59 plus both add-ons. Get that full number in writing before you compare.
Yearly cost at the lowest listed price: Dealer Essential's base plan from $708 before any add-ons such as the CRM or website, and DealerVLO $348 with the website and listing feeds included.

What $29 a month gets you in DealerVLO
I built DealerVLO to run my own lot in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and it still does. One flat plan, no add-ons, no inventory tiers:
- Deals: a deal jacket that computes the totals, trade equity, payment, and front-end and F&I gross as you type.
- Paperwork: the FTC Buyers Guide and your state's title and registration paperwork for all 50 states, filled from the deal, with e-signatures built in.
- Inventory: VIN decode, photos with an optional AI enhance, reconditioning costs line by line so every car shows its all-in cost and margin, a printable window sticker, and days on the lot with a flag at 60 days.
- Pricing: an AI price suggestion on each car, with a range from live comparable listings.
- Website and leads: a dealer website that updates itself from your inventory, daily listing feeds to CarGurus, Cars.com, and Autotrader, and a lead inbox that records where each lead came from.
- Money: buy-here-pay-here payment tracking, a sales report with front- and back-end gross, and a P&L.

Where DealerVLO is the better fit

To be fair to them, Dealer Essential lists features DealerVLO doesn't have:
- Texting and a unified inbox. DealerVLO doesn't text customers; its lead inbox handles website leads and email.
- An AI call assistant. Dealer Essential lists a 24/7 AI receptionist. DealerVLO has no phone system.
- Lender submissions. Dealer Essential lists a lender marketplace for one credit application to many lenders. DealerVLO doesn't pull credit or send applications to lenders.
- Native mobile apps and book values. Dealer Essential lists iOS and Android apps and KBB, NADA, and Black Book bookouts from a VIN scan. DealerVLO runs in a phone's browser and prices from live comparable listings instead.
If the deciding factor is lead handling, what a used-car CRM should actually do is a fair checklist. For vendors that publish full price lists, see Frazer pricing, explained and Lot Wizard pricing, explained.
